Question · Engagement
What do you write in an engagement card?
What you write in an engagement card should congratulate them warmly on the engagement itself, then say you're looking forward to the wedding — short and genuine beats elaborate.
An engagement card is simpler than a wedding card because the news is the whole point. Open with a clear congratulations on the engagement, add a line about how pleased you are for them specifically, and close by saying you're looking forward to the wedding, whenever that turns out to be. There's no need to mention gifts, dates, or plans they almost certainly haven't made yet.
Keep it brief — engagement cards read better short than padded out. If you're also thinking about a gift, our engagement gift guide covers ideas that don't assume a date or venue, and who traditionally buys the engagement gift covers the etiquette side.
